Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. announced on October 23, 2013, that the smart watch Galaxy Gear will be compatible with Galaxy S4, S3, and Note 2 through the Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean) update. Compatibility to other Samsung devices will follow. Up to now, Galaxy Gear is sole available for use with Galaxy Note 3. In my point of view, this is the biggest disadvantage of Galaxy Gear at the moment.
Last week Apple released 2 updates: Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks and the small update for Apple TV 6.0.1. PlexConnect is still running on Apple TV 6.0.1 (2nd and 3rd generation) as reported in the plex forum. The same is reported there for Mac OX X 10.9 Mavericks. I checked it on my own and I can confirm it for my Acer Aspire 1810T running on Windows 8.1 Pro and my MacBook Pro 13” (Mid 2012) running on Mavericks. However, I had to re-install both the Windows and the Mac OS X certificate on my Apple TV 3.
Update: Documents 5 By Readdle: Redesigned File Manager for iPhone and iPad
On October, 25, 2013, Documents by Readdle got an update to version 4.4. It is a small update, but with a major improvement: Now Documents by Readdle 4.4 supports windows shared folder support (SMB). This means that Macs (Time Capsule, MacBook Pro, iMac, MacBook Air) are supported via SMB, too! In my point of view, this is a big step ahead for managing my private cloud / iCloud. Now AirDrop is supported, too.

Hi folks, take a chance to win 1 out of 10 promo codes for Cloud Commander for Mac! Recently, I reviewed Cloud Commander for iOS, my personal favorite file and manager app for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Cloud Commander for Mac is similar to the iOS version, except the fact that SMB connections are not available. Details can be found here.
My review on Cloud Commander 3.6.1 for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch comes to the result that Cloud Commander is the best file manager and FTP manager for my private cloud / iCloud, cloud services, FTP (NAS), SMB (Windows, Mac, Time Capsule) I’ve ever tested. Additional, you can get Cloud Commander for Mac and Cloud Commander SkyDrive Edition for Mac (supports SkyDrive and SkyDrive Pro / Sharepoint 2013).
Setting up a FTP server on Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 can be done easily by using the built-in FTP server of Windows 8 and Windows 8.1. You can access the FTP server via LAN, WLAN or VPN (Virtual Private Network) outside your home network. Although you can set up any computer as FTP server by installing third-party applications like FileZilla FTP server, this step-by-step guide shows how to set up FTP server on Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 without installing any third-party software or tools. I set up the Windows FTP server on my Acer Aspire 1810T running on Windows 8.1 Preview.
Setting up permissions to a folder for a specified user in Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 is useful for local user accounts in Windows 8 and Windows 8.1. For example, you can manage permissions for your own Windows FTP server (built-in Windows FTP-server or Filezilla FTP-server) to get access to your private cloud / iCloud via FTP or a child account using a Windows 8 local account or to allow access to a member of your home network group to a sole dedicated folder.
Setting up a local user account (named ‘local account’) in Windows 8.1 is needed, e.g., to get access to a built-in Windows 8 FTP-server for a specified user, for a child account or to set up permissions to a dedicated folder for a specified user.
Users with a local account cannot download apps from the Windows store, but you can set up this later, too.
