Some months ago I tested Airserver 1.1.2 on Windows 8 with less success. AirServer 1.1.2 has been running unsteadily on Windows 8 Pro with too many connection breakdowns. Now there are two new versions released: Airserver 1.1.8 and Airserver 1.9 beta. Here are my findings, tested with my iPhone 4S and iPad 4th generation: The stability is improved, but from time to time you got still some connection breakdowns again. However, the number in total is less. The transfer speed of AirPlay mirroring is still good. It seems to me that AirServer needs less memory and CPU power of my Windows 8 PC as AirServer version 1.1.2.
There are a lot of different Airplay apps for Mac and Windows PC. I tested Reflector App 1.5.4 on Mac OS X 10.8.2 Mountain Lion and Reflector 1.2.3 on Windows 8 Pro, AirServer 1.1.2, AirParrot 1.1.3 and Airfoil 3.3.2 on Windows 8 Pro.
Changing some settings in the Vodafone DSL-EasyBox 803 isn’t really easy, especially to extend the WiFi network is a mess: The EasyBox isn’t accepting an Airport Express Station (2nd generation, MB321Z/A) or an Airport Express Base Station (3rd generation, MC414Z/A) as WLAN repeaters because of its WPS safety protocol.
Some weeks ago I reported about my findings on running Reflector app on Windows 8 Pro. Reflector app doesn’t run perfectly on Windows 8. So do other AirPlay mirroring apps like AirParrot and AirServer.
Since last Friday I’m a happy and pride owner of a MacBook Pro 13″ (Mid 2012) with a Intel Core Duo i5 2,5GHz processor running on OS X 10.8.2 Mountain Lion. 🙂
Last, but not least, I tested Shairport4w 188.8.131.52, a small app for AirPlaying music from your iPad, iPhone or iPod touch to the loud-speakers of your Windows PC. In contrast to Airfoil, Shairport4w does not cost anything! It turns your Windows PC’s loud-speakers into an AirPlay device.
Do you have the need for mirroring your iPhone 4S, iPad 2 or new iPad screen on your MAC or Windows PC? Do you want to capture a video of your iPhone 4S, iPad 2 or new iPad screen, e.g. for video tutorials or video presentations? If you answer at least one question with ‘Yes, I do!’ the Reflector app could be the app of your choice. Reflector mirrors an iPhone or iPad screen to a MAC or Windows PC screen via AirPlay and captures a video of your iPhone or iPad screen by demand. Reflector costs $14.99 for a single user license. The company behind Reflector developed AirParrot, too.
After reviewing AirParrot (AirPlay mirroring from Mac / PC to Apple TV 2 and 3) and Airfoil (Airplaying music and sounds from Mac / PC to AirPlay enabled devices and vice versa) on Windows 8, today I tested AirServer intensively on my Acer Aspire 1810T running on Windows 8 Pro with Windows 8 Media Center. It seems that AirPlaying videos and mirroring iPhone’s or iPad’s screen on Windows 8 is a hard job for apps like AirParrot and Airserver. Airserver faces similar stability problems like AirParrot. Both are running unsteadily on Windows 8.
This January becomes the ‘Month of AirPlay’ at miApple.me: Three days ago I wrote an article about AirParrot, an app for AirPlay mirroring MAC or Windows PC screens. At least two further articles about AirPlaying apps are planned. Today I review Airfoil for Windows 3.3.2, an Windows app for AirPlaying music or sounds (!) from a Windows PC to AirPlay Devices like iPhone, iPads,…. There’s an Airfoil for MAC, too. The installation is simple, just downloading and installing as administrator. Keep in mind potential Windows fire wall issues. In my case there were no issues.
Update: AirPlay Mirroring: AirParrot 1.2 For Windows Still Stutters On Videos
Update: AirParrot 1.1.7 For Windows: AirPlaying PC’s Screen To Apple TV Still Stutters
Update: AirPlay: Fixing AirParrot Sound And Video Problems on Windows 7, 8 And 8.1 Preview
I have been looking for an app to mirror my PC’s screen on my Apple TV 3 for a while. The reason for this is the need that I sometimes want to show or explain some people things which are not photos or apple-conform videos.
