miappleme_Big_1Since two days I’ve been a lucky iPad Air owner! I purchased an iPad air WiFi + Cellular in silver color with 128 GB capacity. Up to this date I used an iPad 4th generation WiFi + cellular with 64 GB capacity. At least, the iPad air overcomes one big disadvantage of previous iPad generations: It is 28% lighter, 20% thinner and got 24% less volume. The weight was the main reason to switch to the iPad air. I was on the verge to buy an iPad mini because of its low weight. However, the display size is an important fact for me, too. Hence, I decided to go with the iPad Air. and it was the right decision: The iPad Air is really much lighter than as predecessors!

FileExplorer icon 204x204FileExplorer, one of my favorite file managing and FTP app for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, became a minor update to from version 3.0.0 to 3.1.0 on November 13, 2013, and mainly fixes the incompatibility to Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks. Further improvements are now an official Windows 8.1 and a Western Digital NAS support. Details about FileExplorer can be found on my latest review on FileExplorer.

Update: Documents 5 By Readdle: Redesigned File Manager for iPhone and iPad
Documents 5 iconOn October, 25, 2013, Documents by Readdle got an update to version 4.4. It is a small update, but with a major improvement: Now Documents by Readdle 4.4 supports windows shared folder support (SMB). This means that Macs (Time Capsule, MacBook Pro, iMac, MacBook Air) are supported via SMB, too! In my point of view, this is a big step ahead for managing my private cloud / iCloud. Now AirDrop is supported, too.

Cloud Commander iconHi folks, take a chance to win 1 out of 10 promo codes for Cloud Commander 3.6.1 for iOS! It’s my personal favorite app for file and FTP managing of my private Cloud / iCloud (‘miCloud’). Details of my review on Cloud Commander for iOS can be found here.

Cloud Commander icon

Cloud Commander iconMy review on Cloud Commander 3.6.1 for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch comes to the result that Cloud Commander is the best file manager and FTP manager for my private cloud / iCloud, cloud services, FTP (NAS), SMB (Windows, Mac, Time Capsule) I’ve ever tested. Additional, you can get Cloud Commander for Mac and Cloud Commander SkyDrive Edition for Mac (supports SkyDrive and SkyDrive Pro / Sharepoint 2013).

FileExplorer icon 204x204FileExplorer became a major update to version 3 and nails my rating that it is the best FTP-NAS-private iCloud app for iPhone, iPad and iPad touch. FileExplorer 3 is completely redesigned to fit perfectly with the flat design of iOS 7. The only ‘disadvantage’ of FileExplorer, I’ve mentioned in my review on the 3 best FTP apps for iPhone and iPad, is now overcome. AirDrop is also integrated now. Altogether, the usability is improved, especially, file uploads are easier accessible.

Update: PhotoSync 2.0 review

PhotoSync App LogoPhotoSync has been one of my very first file transferring and syncing apps. I’ve already reported about PhotoSync eleven months before (with special focus on the settings!). But how is PhotoSync 1.7.2 app doing right now? Almost perfectly: The PhotoSync Companions are running stably both on Windows 8 (version 1.6.4 released on November 22, 2012) and OS X 10.8.3 Mountain Lion (version 1.6.1 released on September 4, 2012). Further more, the universal iOS app for iPhone and iPad does what it should do (version 1.7.2. released on December 28, 2012). Last but not least, you got a big number of cloud services you can access via PhotoSync app. 🙂 But I could not connect PhotoSync to a Time Capsule. 🙁

FreeFileSync iconI was looking for an alternative to Synctoy for my private cloud / iCloud. I switch my NAS from a Western Digital My Book Live to an Apple Time Capsule. Therefore, I was looking for a folder syncing app witch is running both on Windows 8 (Acer Aspire 1810T) and OS X 10.8.3 Mountain Lion (MacBook Pro). Further more, I’ve been seeking for an more comfortable app than Synctoy is, especially regarding a convenient automated time schedule batch for syncing. In addition, the app should have a bidirectional sync.

Update: The Best File Manager And FTP Apps for iPhone And iPad (Review)
Documents By Readdle FTPIn July 2012 I reviewed 9 FTP clients for iPhone and iPad. The best FTP – NAS ‘Private iCloud’ app was definitely the File Explorer app, followed by iStorage HD (iPad) / iStorage (iPhone). The later ones got too many crashes. But the successors, iStorage 2 HD (iPad) and iStorage (iPhone), perform better now.
