Plex icon with Apple TV logoPlexPlexConnect and OpenPlex are running on Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan beta 2. On June 23, 2015, Apple released Mac OS X 10.11 ElCapitan  (build number 15A204h, “pre-release”). I positively tested it with an Apple TV 3 running on Apple TV 7.2 software. Find more about Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan on Apple’s Website. However, I had to re-install OpenPlex. In the installation note of beta 2 is stated that “After upgrading to OS X El Capitan Developer Beta, applications that write to protected/system locations may no longer function correctly.“. This is most probably the reason for the need of re-installation. There seem to be no big changes to beta 1.

Plex icon with Apple TV logoPlexPlexConnect and OpenPlex are running on Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan beta 1. However, the OpenPlex installer is NOT working anymore due to a lot of new security features in OS X as Wahlman.j. pointed out in the PlexConnect forum. Further more, you can NOT install PlexConnect and OpenPlex because the beta 1 blocks the files from being copied / modded (chmod 777, chown root:wheel) and symbolically linked (ln -s) to system locations like python, /usr/bin etc…. The installation of Python doesn’t work anymore. You even cannot update Python systemwide anymore on a virgin 10.11 El Capitan beta 1. Hopefully, it is just a beta bug.

OpenPlex Lite Mac OS X app for PlexConnect on Apple TV

Plex icon with Apple TV logoOpenPlex Lite automatically installs and manages PlexConnect on your Mac to get Plex Media Server streaming on your Apple TV. In contrast to OpenPlex, OpenPlex Lite is an app for the everyday user who are not in the need of a lot of extra function, as the creator “stoffez” states in the OpenPlex Lite about section. For superior requirements, OpenPlex, developed by ‘Wahlman.j’ (Source Code), ‘CyberGhost84’ (GUI) & ‘Flipman6’ (Obj-C), is the right choice.
