Apple TV plus remote

Apple TV LogoOn July 29, 2013, Apple released, together with iOS 7 beta 4, the new Apple TV Software beta 3. In the release notes it is named 5.4 Beta Seed 3, but after updating my Apple TV 3 I found in the section ‘About’ documented that it is in real Apple TV Software 6.0 (6646.16.1). It seems, that together with iOS 7, the Apple TV will get to a major update to version 6.0 (The predecessor beta was named 5.4 on the Apple TV).

AirParrot logo

AirParrot logo bigHalf a year ago I reported about performance problems of AirParrot 1.1.3 on Windows 8 while AirPlay mirroring the PC’s screen. And I’m not the only one who faces this annoying “features” of AirParrot on Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 Preview. Just have a look at the comments on the above mentioned post. However, two commentators of miApple.me, called ‘bickbadger’ and ‘Arde’, provided two separate fixes for that problems. I tested it with AirParrot 1.1.6, using a Acer Aspire 180T running on Windows 8.1 Preview with Windows Media Center installed and an Apple TV 3: And it works for me, if I combine this two fixes!

Shairport4w iconThere are a lot of different Airplay apps for Mac and Windows PC. I tested Reflector App 1.5.4 on Mac OS X 10.8.2 Mountain Lion and Reflector 1.2.3 on Windows 8 Pro, AirServer 1.1.2, AirParrot 1.1.3 and Airfoil 3.3.2 on Windows 8 Pro.

Further more, I’ve already reported about a small, but capable app called ‘Shairport4w’. Now Frank Friemel released Shairport4w version 1.0.5.1 on March 5th, 2013.

AirServer Icon

AirServer IconAfter reviewing AirParrot (AirPlay mirroring from Mac / PC to Apple TV 2 and 3) and Airfoil (Airplaying music and sounds from Mac / PC to AirPlay enabled devices and vice versa) on Windows 8, today I tested AirServer intensively on my Acer Aspire 1810T running on Windows 8 Pro with Windows 8 Media Center. It seems that AirPlaying videos and mirroring iPhone’s or iPad’s screen on Windows 8 is a hard job for apps like AirParrot and Airserver. Airserver faces similar stability problems like AirParrot. Both are running unsteadily on Windows 8.

Airfoil icon

Airfoil iconThis January becomes the ‘Month of AirPlay’ at miApple.me: Three days ago I wrote an article about AirParrot, an app for AirPlay mirroring MAC or Windows PC screens. At least two further articles about AirPlaying apps are planned. Today I review Airfoil for Windows 3.3.2, an Windows app for AirPlaying music or sounds (!) from a Windows PC to AirPlay Devices like iPhone, iPads,…. There’s an Airfoil for MAC, too. The installation is simple, just downloading and installing as administrator. Keep in mind potential Windows fire wall issues. In my case there were no issues.

AirParrot logo bigI have been looking for an app to mirror my PC’s screen on my Apple TV 3 for a while. The reason for this is the need that I sometimes want to show or explain some people things which are not photos or apple-conform videos.

miApple.me icon big 1

miApple.me icon big 1Today I’ll give you an updated survey about my personally owned Apple products. There were some significant changes… 😉

First, on September 23, I switch from my iPhone 4 (32 GB) to a new iPhone 4S (64 GB). The speed improvement is really significant, especially if you use apps like iPhoto. Further more, I wanted to see how “Siri” works. But after testing for a while I’ve got the opinion that you can only use it if you are alone in a room because this will irritate other people if you are speaking, but not with them… 😉
