Plex organizes all of your personal media, wherever you keep it, so you can enjoy it on any devices. Plex is also running on Apple TV (2nd and 3rd) generation. However, you need to tweak the Apple TV with PlexConnect on Mac OS X or Windows 7, 8 and 8.1. This is not a simply doing, you need to install several apps, create and install a specific Apple TV profile. Especially, inexperencied user face problems to get PlexConnect running. Hence, there is an easier way to use Plex on Apple TV without PlexConnect or jailbreak via AirPlay mirroring using Plex for iOS.

AirParrot-Reflector logoAirParrot and Reflector App are versatile tools to use Apple’s AirPlay function to mirror screens. The well-known function of AirParrot for Mac or AirParrot for Windows mirrors the computer screen to Apple TV (2nd and 3rd generation). Using Reflector for Mac or Reflector for Windows PC turns your computer into an AirPlay receiver and enables AirPlay screen mirroring from iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to computers.

Now supported iOS devices can mirror at 1080p when “Optimize For” is set to High-Resolution. Further more, this version improves Reflector and AirPlay stability. The trial period has also been improved. Previously, the trial was limited to one ten-minute mirroring session every ten minutes. Reflector 1.6.3 changes this period to seven days and adds a watermark. The Mac version can record your iPhone, iPod touch and iPad screen, the Windows PC one does not. The video screen capture works seamlessly on my Mac Book Pro 13”, mid 2012.

Reflector mirrors your device on a big screen without wires or complicated setups. There is both an Windows PC version and Mac OS X version available. After opening Reflector on your PC or Mac, you just need to start the AirPlaying mirroring on your iPhone or iPad. Squirrels, the makers of Reflector, released Reflector 1.3.3 update for PC in November 2013. Beside Reflector, Squirrels developed also AirParrot, an app to AirPlay a computer’s screen to Apple TV.
