FileExplorer icon 204x204FileExplorer became a major update to version 3 and nails my rating that it is the best FTP-NAS-private iCloud app for iPhone, iPad and iPad touch. FileExplorer 3 is completely redesigned to fit perfectly with the flat design of iOS 7. The only ‘disadvantage’ of FileExplorer, I’ve mentioned in my review on the 3 best FTP apps for iPhone and iPad, is now overcome. AirDrop is also integrated now. Altogether, the usability is improved, especially, file uploads are easier accessible.

PhotoSync App LogoAs you may know, I really like PhotoSync App, especially, because of the high-speed photo file transfer and the excellent and free Windows PC (running on Windows 8) and Mac (running on OS X 10.8.3 Mountain Lion) companions. Today PhotoSync 2.0 for iPhone and iPad (universal app) was released. I intensively tested the new version: It’s a big step ahead!

Update: PhotoSync 2.0 review

PhotoSync App LogoPhotoSync has been one of my very first file transferring and syncing apps. I’ve already reported about PhotoSync eleven months before (with special focus on the settings!). But how is PhotoSync 1.7.2 app doing right now? Almost perfectly: The PhotoSync Companions are running stably both on Windows 8 (version 1.6.4 released on November 22, 2012) and OS X 10.8.3 Mountain Lion (version 1.6.1 released on September 4, 2012). Further more, the universal iOS app for iPhone and iPad does what it should do (version 1.7.2. released on December 28, 2012). Last but not least, you got a big number of cloud services you can access via PhotoSync app. 🙂 But I could not connect PhotoSync to a Time Capsule. 🙁

FreeFileSync iconI was looking for an alternative to Synctoy for my private cloud / iCloud. I switch my NAS from a Western Digital My Book Live to an Apple Time Capsule. Therefore, I was looking for a folder syncing app witch is running both on Windows 8 (Acer Aspire 1810T) and OS X 10.8.3 Mountain Lion (MacBook Pro). Further more, I’ve been seeking for an more comfortable app than Synctoy is, especially regarding a convenient automated time schedule batch for syncing. In addition, the app should have a bidirectional sync.

Update: The Best File Manager And FTP Apps for iPhone And iPad (Review)
Documents By Readdle FTPIn July 2012 I reviewed 9 FTP clients for iPhone and iPad. The best FTP – NAS ‘Private iCloud’ app was definitely the File Explorer app, followed by iStorage HD (iPad) / iStorage (iPhone). The later ones got too many crashes. But the successors, iStorage 2 HD (iPad) and iStorage (iPhone), perform better now.

Synctoy iconAs you may know, I created my own private cloud / icloud – miCloud. I personally prefer to host my data on my own. In conjunction with my iPhone and iPad I really love the app File Explorer with an FTP access to my private iCloud and SkyDrive, Dropbox, Box.net and Google Drive connection. So I transferred all my data from the PC (Windows 7 Home Premium) to my private iCloud. But on the one hand I want to have direct access on my PC, on the other hand I want to backup my data.

Windows 8 icon blue

Windows 8 logo“AirPort Extreme can turn your external USB hard drive into a drive you can share with all the users on your network and access securely over the Internet. This feature — AirPort Disk — is a simple and convenient way to share files among everyone in your family, office, or class. How does it work? Just connect the external hard drive to the USB port on the back of your AirPort Extreme and — voilà — all the documents, videos, photos, and other files on the drive instantly become available to anyone on the secure network, Mac and PC users alike.” – Well, that’s the Apple Theory, but on the Windows reality it is not that simple…

Windows 8Do you have sometimes the need to have a FAT32 formatted hard drive? Don’t you? If you’ve got Apple devices beside Microsoft ones, you will have the need! But there are some issues to overcome: On the one hand Windows 8 will only give you the opportunity of formatting NTFS and exFAT, on the other hand most FAT32 apps will only format up to 32 GB.

OwnCloud offers a novel service to access, sync and share your own data on a server of your choosing, that means on your own private cloud / iCloud. OwnCloud plays with the threads of clouds services with unknown places where your data is stored. Sounds interesting, but is, on the one hand, cloud computing really so unsecure, and, on the other hand, ownCloud really safe? Some, like Pascal Junod, say the later is not…

Cubby iconAs I mentioned some days ago, Cubby is a new cloud service with a peer-to-peer functionality which differs Cubby from box.net, Dropbox, SugarSync, Skydrive, Google Drive or other cloud providers. On July 11th, 2012, Cubby announced a referral program: You get 1GB extra space for every invited person who installed Cubby.
