Update: Setting Up iCloud Email on Windows 10 Mail App
Update: Setting Up iCloud Email In Windows 8.1 Mail App
Setting up iCloud email in Windows 8 mail app is not that simple, especially, because certain support documents of Apple or Microsoft are not correct in all details. Very important are the SSL-settings mentioned in the later text.
Here we are:
In the Mail App go to settings, account, add account and choose ‘IMAP’ for setting up iCloud email. The following settings should be filled in:
- Username = …@me.com
- imap.mail.me.com, SSL = on, Port = 993
- smtp.mail.me.com, SSL = off, Port = 587
- Outgoing server requires authentication = yes
- Use the same username and password to send and receive email = yes
It is very important to switch on SSL for IMAP and off SSL for SMTP!
Update September 20, 2014:
It is possible to keep security sending mail from @icloud.com adresses to set smtp server with these parameters:
- TLS (NOT SSL)
- port 587 and authentification.
At least, it’s working on Windows 8.1 + Outlook 2013 (Cudos to ‘Ribibi’!).
Stay tuned! 😉

Thanks this worked well. Windows 8 is nice but quirky!
What will happen with the me.com address or will it be transparent with icloud.com ?
Hi Dick,
thanks for the feedback! Emails sent to icloud.com will be delivered to me.com address, too. This is organized by the Apple email servers meaning the above settings work for both email adresses at the same time.
So far I know, new Apple users have only an option to get an icloud.com address. Hens, these ones have to put in …icloud.com.
Cheers,
Gee Are

Just got a surface 2 and cannot get the mail app to send emails with your setting using my icloud credentials. Not sure what else I should try.
I do have the outlook 2013 working but for ease of use would really like to get the mail app working. Any other ideas that I can try.
Hi Zach,
does this mean you can receive emails, but not send email? If so, try to change the SSL settings to ‘off’ for IMAP.
If you still fail, then submit your settings here, except private information (hided by ‘XXX’. I will have a look into it later.
Cheers,
