Windows Phone 8 logoFinally, Microsoft succeeded in setting up iCloud email, calendars and contacts on Windows Phone 8.1. Getting iCloud email and iCloud calendars running on Windows Phone 7 and Windows Phone 8 is a hardship. Getting iCloud contacts working is impossible, because Windows Phone 8 Update 2 (GDR 2) supports CalDAV and CardDAV only for Google contacts and calendars. However, coming with Windows Phone 8.1, iCloud email, calendars and contacts are easily set up and working seamlessly with read and write. The ‘read-only’ detour over Google calendar subscription or Outlook.com calendar subscription is not necessary anymore.

PhotoSync Logo new finalTouchbyte, the makers of PhotoSync, released today PhotoSync Companion 2.1 for Mac OS X and PhotoSync Companion 2.2.0 for Windows. The most important news are the upcoming releases of PhotoSync 2.1 for iOS and PhotoSync for Android 1.0 mentioned in the release notes. As already indicated in PhotoSync 2.1 for iOS beta and on the new PhotoSync homepage (still under construction) support of Android devices is obviously coming soon. In addition, the PhotoSync logo has now a new and flat design in iOS 7 look.

Update: Windows Phone 8.1: Setting Up iCloud Email, Calendars And Contacts
Windows Phone logoSome people like me want to sync the Windows Phone 8 Calendar with Mac iCal. There are two options for Syncing: On the one hand, you can sync the calendars using CalDAV via a Google account both on your Windows Phone 8 (does not work for Windows Phone 7 because CalDAV is not supported there) and on your Mac. On the other hand, you can do it via a iCloud calendar subscription using a Outlook.com account (or Windows Live account). The later one is ‘read only’ on your Windows Phone 8 meaning you cannot change or add events on your Windows Phone 8 (Windows Phone 7 is supported).

Update: How To Sync iCloud Calendar With Windows 10 Calendar App
iCloud logoSince a couple of days, iCloud Calendar subscription via Outlook.com / Windows Live is working again on Windows 8 mail app, Windows Phone 7 and Windows Phone 8. Microsoft needed more than one and a half-year to fix the syncing problem. A lot of user, including me, were upset about the long period of time and the insane comments of some Microsoft forum administrators. I have checked my iCloud calendar subscription (‘read only’) for the last days and I can state that it is working again.

Update: Windows Phone 8.1: Setting Up iCloud Email, Calendars And Contacts
Windows Phone logoIf outgoing iCloud emails are not sent, changing the IMAP and SMTP settings of your iCloud email account on Windows Phone 7 or Windows Phone 8 fixes the problem. An additional problem is the message ‘Attention required’ which is solved in the same way. Normally, you set up your iCloud email account on a Windows Phone filling in your iCloud email address and your password. However, this is not working for some people any more. The same happened to me some days ago.

Update: Enpass 4.0.0 Update Adds New Custom Fields And Label Editing
enpass iconEnpass (formerly known as ‘Wallet X’) is the best password manager for iOS (iPhone, iPad, iPod touch), Mac OS X and Windows (running on Windows 8.1) in regard to cost-performance based on my personal findings: 1Password has much more functions, but it is much more expensive (Mac version $49,99 EUR, Windows version $49,99, iOS version $17,99). SafeWallet is free, but there is no Mac companion available. Enpass has a flat design in all versions.

Outlook.com LogoA lot of people have the need to get a least their iCloud calendar subscribed to the Windows 8 calendar app and/or to their Windows Phone 7 / 8 calendar. A bunch of threads about this problem of syncing iCloud to Outlook.com, which is supported by Windows 8 and Windows Phone 7 and 8, can be found on the Microsoft Community Forums.

Update: How To Sync Google Calendar With Windows 10 Calendar App
Windows 8 logoSome months ago I describe a solution how to set up iCloud Calendar in Windows 8 Mail App as a ‘read-only’ possibility. Setting up the Google Gmail calendar in Windows 8 calendar app works in the same way: The solution is to subscribe to your own Google Gmail calendar in your outlook.com or Windows Live account. With that you can partly bypass the restriction that Google stopped supporting Microsoft Exchange Active Sync protocol.

Windows 8 logoI’ve already reported about issues concerning syncing Google mail / Gmail, Google contacts and Google calendar with Windows 8 apps like mail, contacts and calendar. On the one hand it was a little bit tricky to get things running (Syncing Google Gmail mail and contacts works. The later only for customers who connected their Google Gmail account to windows 8 before January 30, 2013), on the other hand it is just not possible because Google stopped Microsoft Exchange Active Sync support for their products.
