Update: How To Sync Google Calendar With Windows 10 Calendar App
Some months ago I describe a solution how to set up iCloud Calendar in Windows 8 Mail App as a ‘read-only’ possibility. Setting up the Google Gmail calendar in Windows 8 calendar app works in the same way: The solution is to subscribe to your own Google Gmail calendar in your outlook.com or Windows Live account. With that you can partly bypass the restriction that Google stopped supporting Microsoft Exchange Active Sync protocol.
Here we are:
Go to http://www.google.com/calendar and login with your Google account and add an appointment for testing the syncing between Google calendar and Windows 8 calendar:
Then go to calendar settings and click on ‘Calendars’:
Choose the calendar you like to be shown in Windows 8 calendar app:
Scroll down until you see ‘Private Address’, click on ‘ICAL’ and copy the link which is shown:
In case special cases, e.g. for a Google apps account, you cannot see ‘Private Address’ because you have not the rights to share calendars with somebody. Ask your administrator for a permission:
Now you should go to your outlook.com or Windows Live account, log in, go to ‘calendar’, click on ‘Subscribe’ and paste the copied link into the field ‘Calendar URL’. After that you give the calendar a name in the field ‘Calendar Name’ and click on ‘Subscribe to calendar’:
That’s all! Your Google calendar appointment is now shown in your outlook.com / Windows Live calendar:
But is this appointment really shown in the Windows 8 calendar app? Yes, it is:
Taking everything into account there is a possibility to get Google Calendars synced to Windows 8 calendar app as ‘read only’.
Stay tuned! 😉
